Have a Safe and Happy Halloween!

BOO!  While it is okay for Halloween to be a bit spooky at times, it should always be a fun, safe experience for our kids.  Here are a few tips for making sure trick or treating is a real treat for all the youngsters:

happy_halloweenIt all starts with a costume!  Make sure any costume accessories such as swords, etc. are soft and flexible.  Also, use reflective tape on the costume and bags so that drivers can see you. The costume should properly fit to avoid tripping, etc. and masks should not limit vision.

Avoid trick or treating alone and stay in neighborhoods you know.

USE A FLASHLIGHT!

Walking neighborhood streets at night can lead to all kinds of accidents. Walk, don’t run and use sidewalks and crosswalks where available.  And, of course, always look both ways.

Only visit well lit homes and NEVER go inside a home unless it is a neighbor you already know and you’re with a trusted adult.

And finally, only eat factory-wrapped candy and check it for tampering.  Avoid homemade treats from strangers.

Oh, and brush your teeth before bed!
